BVDFree is a voluntary industry-led scheme, working to eliminate Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) from all cattle by 2022. The key to success is to identify and remove all animals persistently infected (PI) with the BVD virus from the English cattle herd.
The BVDFree website is designed to be an information portal on BVD, providing relevant technical documents to aid BVD control and elimination on your farm. The BVDFree Scheme will not advise a farm on specific BVD control plans. These will need to be discussed with your Farm Veterinary Surgeon.
MilkSure is a training and veterinary certification programme for dairy farmers. Whilst centred on residue avoidance in milk, it covers other areas of good medicine stewardship, such as adhering to correct treatment protocols, medicine storage, and reducing the risk of antibiotic resistance.
The initiative is led by Dairy UK and has been developed in conjunction with BCVA (the British Cattle Veterinary Association). Visit the MilkSure website for more information.
